WOW – COMPLETE SENSORY OVERLOAD TONIGHT….
Dad and me had our usual little walk around the village after tea tonight – dad didn’t realise that it was the evening that a big fat red hooman with a fluffy white face was driving around the villages on a car thing that made lots of noises and had flashing lights with screaming excitable little hoomans around and yappie pooches!
By the time we realised what was happening it was upon us:
3 possible options we faced –
Turn around and go the other way
Dad pick me up and carry me past the “noisy things”
We persevere and walk past the “noisy things”
I looked up at dad, dad looked down at me and gently stroked me head as he paused and then said “I believe in you and we can do this boy” [you see coz even though I have shark teeth and a thick coat to protect me, as well as me dad, I am actually a nervous and reactive pooch when new things suddenly come into my world.] Once I have seen them a few times – they ain’t a problem and I laugh at them.
Dad kept me on a shorter lead, gave me nice food things to focus on him and talked to me as we walked. I didn’t bark at all, I did do a few baby kangaroo jumps but I got bored with those after a while so we just walked past it all.
Before I knew it, the “noisy things” had gone and I was really calm and walking nicely on me lead as normal.
Success……. We then had a nice peaceful walks home.
Dad was proud of me… I did have a short zoomie session when I came in from the walk and even went to the toilet inside, but dad didn’t say anything and just cleaned it up. Perhaps it was the stress and excitement all being released – who cares!
I also got to wear my new harness again – it’s better than the other one.
Dunno if the decision that me dad made was the right one but I felt like it was and I achieved a lot. Guess what I’m going to do in a minute – my favourite hobby – sleeps.
Beat the nasty Santa woofs. [dad is my grinch!]
